Embrace Change

"If you don't create change, change will create you."

As humans, we dread change. We like stability and predictability, and change is anything but. Ironically, change is permanently woven into the fabric of our lives. It is a part of life the same way that birth and death are.

Resisting change is futile. There is no growth without change. Just ask a butterfly. Learn more about the importance of change [link]

Why should we embrace change?

Sooner or later, we will face change. Whether it comes in the form of a crisi, a health scare, loss of a loved one, or during a pivotal points in our life, change will knock on our door. And when change is upon us, we will have to leave our comfort zone and venture out into the wild terrain of uncertainty.

While there, we will face a lot of surprises. The first one? Change is just the beginning. In fact, change is merely the first step in a three step process.

Change -> Transition -> Transformation

The steps vary in length and each of them comes with its own set of challenges and obstacles. They all require a slightly different approach. But once you complete them, you will be stronger, wiser, more experienced. You will be transformed.

We can't stop the change. But we can - and should - learn how to embrace it. The better we adapt to change, the easier we'll transform our lives.

Embrace change with the strength of your character

According to Positive Psychology, our character is a dynamic set consisting of 24 building blocks called character strengths. Each and every one of us possesses all 24 character strengths, which are expressed to a greater or lesser degree. The most expressed strengths, the ones that feel like "us", are called signature strengths. Each of us has between 3-5 signature strengths. Learn more about character strengths and signature strengths here. Link.

We can embrace change by harnessing the power of our Character Strengths, and specifically our Signature Strengths. When we tap into our strengths, overcoming change is easy.

But what do I know about change?

Quite a bit, actually. Change is my middle name, I like to say. Of course it is not, but after being through so many changes in my personal life I sometimes wonder whether I should it have legally changed.

What kind of changes? All kinds: close to 20 moves, including two across the oceans, divorce, layoffs, sudden deaths of the loved ones, injuries. It was only natural that after so much change I would want to study this topic in more depth, mostly from the Positive Psychology point of view.

This Guide is a combination of scientifically validated tools and techniques and real life examples.
